Hands up if you were born in the 90s? I was born in 1992 and I was a true 90s baby! I am proud that this year I will turn twenty five and have to actually start being an adult. But before we worry about responsibilities, worries and adulthood I wanted to take a chance to put a smile on your 90s face! Here’s something a little different, 10 Things All 90s Kids Remember!
- Chatterboxes were the best way to flirt with your crush or dig at your mate! Those little triangle folds and dotted colours were painstakingly made by that one group of girls who’d push them out like a high end production line! These bad boys were the ultimate fortune tellers and if you didn’t have a coat pocket filled with them, you weren’t a true 90s kid!
- MASH was the best game EVER! Wanna know who you’re gonna marry? Where you’re gonna live? This little gem will shed light on your future far away when cars will be flying! There was always someone who ended up living in a shed with the geeky boy in class! Suckers!
- Smelly gel pens set you apart from the paupers in your class! One girl in my class shad every single flavour and she genuinely used to get high off the fumes! Smelly gel pens were the one! You had to unscrew the bottom of them and blow through them to get them to work after a week and if they leaked in your pencil case you were a goner but they made maths classes all around England!
- Having your mum shout at you “Get off the computer, I need to call Nan!” Kids these days will never know the struggle! That sound of the internet dialling up is one I will never forget. Even if you were knee deep in signing on and off of MSN to see if your crush reacts, your mum was savage if Nan needed calling!
- Going to Blockbuster on a Friday night with your best mate, your mum and your brother and sisters was the highlight of your week! Charlie’s Angels and Coyote Ugly were your firm favourites! And being allowed to drop them back through the little post box door on your own made you so grown up! Anyone else’s Mum be like “rewind it and put it straight back in the box!” as soon as the film finished?
- Arthur. Everyday when I’m walking down the street, everybody that you meet has a blah blah blah! Racing home after school to put on CBBC and see your old pal Arthur and Buster. Ironic how you hated sassy old DW as a child and you’ve now basically turned into her – she takes no shit!
- Goosebumps. The friggin’ scariest programme on TV ever and still to this day the only books my 30 year old brother has ever read! Those programmes were so frightening but you just couldn’t not watch! That programme, before Neighbours, the Simpsons on BBC 2 and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and your Thursday evening was sorted!
- 90s dinners and food! No weeknight dinner could be better than Potato smileys, fish fingers and beans! Slush puppies were a staple on holiday – with a warning that it would make my sister go hyper on the dance floor and she’d try to get her leg above her head! Sunny D – the grossest and most sugariest drink ever in the world, but if it had S Club 7 on the label, I’m buying a family pack!
- Lunchables. No school trip was right without a lunchable! Those little slices of ham and cheese were little chunks of heaven! Remember the pizza one!? Oh man you slathered that weird hard bread pizza base with tomato puree and cheese and ham and you were the king of lunch times!
- Getting all of your make up supplies from Sabrina’s Secrets and your fashion and accessories from S Club Style! Going to the paper shop every week was your highlight and building your empire of glittery lip gloss and bandanas was the best hobby you had!I miss the 90s! I miss going out all day and playing and when the street lights turned pink you knew it was time to go home. I miss messing around with your brother and sisters and tickling your mum so hard she cried. The 90s were definitely the best era! Long live 90s kids!
